Water - we wash with it, we bathe in it, and drink it every day. Clean water is essential for life, and throughout the modern world it is often taken for granted. While water is universally recognized as a vital and limited resource, we as a species continue to diminish supplies of clean water simply by using everyday products that pollute. Unfortunately, this is happening more and more as even larger amounts of chemicals and impurities find their way into our water supply. Water treatment to obtain clean drinking water has gained popularity over the last century, and clean drinking water will continue to march to the forefront of discussion as one of the most important issues facing the next generation. This article will discuss the basics of water purification and the benefits – both health and environmental – of using a water treatment system.
Simply stated, the process of water treatment is the transformation of water from a non-drinkable state to a drinkable state. Water treatment occurs using various methods, such as filtration or osmosis. Water filters strain bacteria and other particles out of the water, and can be installed as full house water filter systems or countertop drinking water treatment systems. Osmosis is a method of extracting essentially pure, fresh water from polluted or salt water by forcing the water under pressure against a semi-permeable membrane which does not allow impurities through to produce fresh water.
Water purification systems are a healthy choice in today’s world, and while some of the reasons may seem obvious, there are also less obvious reasons why using a water purifier offers unique health and environmental benefits. Using a water treatment system can lead to better health because it eliminates pollutants, chemicals, and harmful substances in the water. Once they are removed, the body does not have to ingest or process the harmful substances. Water purifiers are 99.999% effective in killing bacteria, viruses, and other harmful parasites. This reduces the likelihood of having to visit a doctor or hospital due to diseases caused by these microorganisms. Consuming cleaner water means less time fighting off infection or injury and more time living life. Purified water can be used for cleaning as well, which helps to keep the surrounding environment more hygienic and reduces the likelihood of infection or exposure to harmful microorganisms. Using purified water is a better choice for washing most things we come in direct contact with throughout the day, especially in rural areas where the water supply is polluted or unsafe. Washing clothes in polluted water is almost as bad as bathing in it, as the skin comes in contact with it for most of the day, causing irritation, and washing dishes in polluted water is almost as bad as drinking it, since food touches the plates and then enters the body.
Water purification systems are a healthy choice because they are also better for the environment. Modern systems, like those manufactured by AquaSun International, run off of solar power which is renewable and pollution-free, but can also use generator or vehicle (A/C) power if desired. A water treatment system lasts for decades and only requires a few replacement parts every few years (depending on use). The parts that do need to be changed are easy to replace and shipped quickly in order to resume water purification. Some systems are portable can be transported between different areas of need and are much less wasteful than using bottled water. They save on gas and transportation because they only have to be transported to the area once, whereas water bottles often need to be shipped in multiple times to keep up supply for the population. Water bottles create tons of plastic waste each year, while the system only needs a few parts every few years to maintain a cleaner water supply. As long as there is a sufficient water supply to draw from, purified water does not have to be rationed like water bottles because the system can replenish the supply quickly.
Maintaining a healthy body and a healthy environment is easier with a water treatment system and cleaner water.
